to the Weisse Eins* (White 1)
Focke Wulf FW 190 website!
This
remarkable project will return a legendary Focke-Wulf FW
190 F-8 to the air. Presently, the aircraft is undergoing
complete concours restoration to airworthy condition with
the correct BMW 801 engine.

Weisse
Eins (White 1), a Focke Wulf FW 190 F8, W Nr 931862,
has a rich history and saw action while serving with JG
5 in Norway. The aircraft was last flown during the famous
Battle of Fordefjord on February 9, 1945. It came to rest
on a snow covered mountain after its pilot was forced to
bail out. In September 1983, it was recovered and displayed
at Flesland airport, for the Royal Norwegian Air Force Aircraft
Museum. Several years after that, the aircraft was sent
to the Texas Air Museum for static restoration. It is now
located in Florida.
When
the Focke Wulf Fw 190 - White 1 takes to the air, we will
be treated to sounds rarely heard since the end of WWII.
This is because White 1 will be powered by an original BWM
801 radial engine. There are very few working 801s left
today and none are currently flown.

Our
Museum in no way intends to glorify the former Nazi
regime, but rather, as a formal Museum, to preserve
the World historical record that it did exist, and
to use this once captured aircraft, one of its tools,
as a solemn public memorial for all human beings lost
in the war.
The priviledge of our freedoms can only be truly appreciated
when held in sharp contrast to those who sought to
destroy our lives, our country, and our world order.

In Memoriam
Uffz. Heinz Orlowski
We are sad to report that Uffz. Heinz Orlowski has made his final takeoff. Our deepest sympathies go to Heinz's family and friends in this time of grief. Heinz will always be remembered for his special connection with "Weisse Eins". It is our hope that his memory will continue to live on with the aircraft he once flew.
Our visitors may enjoy these pics of a completely restored famous Luftwaffe aircraft, the Fieseler Storch. This is the aircraft of Dirk Bende who has also restored the motor of this aircraft through his firm MotoBende. Dirk has been a huge help to our restoration of the FW 190, BMW 801 and Jumo 213. Thank you Dirk Bende!

Joining our staff at the WWII Fighter Aircraft Foundation is Syd Jones, who left the Pacific Aviation Museum in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he was Restoration Director and Curator. Syd was responsible for the restoration of the museum's many rare WWII aircraft and also the actual original hangars that were attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. Syd helped develop the Museum's displays and similarly, though with a much smaller budget, will help us to display the many rare and exciting artifacts in our collection, including Weisse Eins, and the recently acquired legendary high performance FW 190 D9.

In
Tribute: Recently our community of Luftwaffe historians
lost a great contributor, an author of the wonderful JaPo
books researching FW 190 D9 Camouflage and Markings. Eric
Larger passed away on 10 October.
He will be truly missed by all.
Special
Thanks: We would like to thank Ole Bjorn Saelensminde
and Geir Tangen for the loan of the rudder differential
unit. With this item we will duplicate one for White 1 and
one for Gelb 16. This, I believe is THE LAST original
part(s) we needed to literally have an example of every
original part necessary to complete Weisse Eins' restoration.
I can not now think of any part we are missing, and I hope
that I am correct!
Withe the arrival of this unit, I will also begin a new
feature in our Member's Section: Work in Progress.
This will allow our members to follow along with the restoration
of this assembly from start to finish, so one may get an
understanding of just what is involved to restore just one
small part of the airplane, and just how amazing these machines
really are!
 We've
recently taken delivery of snap swivels manufactured by
McFarlane Aviation Products. This image provided by Star
Novak was taken during an interview of Star for an upcoming
story in the Women in Aviation magazine. The photo shows
the old and new swivel side-by-side.

am the nephew of Uffz. Robert Merkl, living in Germany.
I stumbled across some family history,
leading to the crash of the plane of my uncle in Norway.
I noted on the homepage that the BMW engine and other
parts were removed to be reassembled in Florida. With
the help to two Norwegian historians and my family
documents we were able to piece the story together
and update it.
Might be of interest to you. Perhaps I 'll be able
to pass by sometimes at your museum to look at the
original

We
had a visitor yesterday at the Museum who as a boy sat
in a Bf 109 when one made a forced landing near him.
He ran out to see the neat airplane, and the pilot sat
him in it. He never forgot.
Today he sat in the FW190, and the tears welled up in
his eyes. He could not speak. For him I know that the
memories came flooding back, and for a moment he was
that little boy again. |

Charles Lynch; little did I realize just how much

your work in assembling the detailed historical notes

52 & He 111 Schilds
These are schilds made by the White 1 Foundation for the
Royal Norwegian Air Force Museum. The short circuit panel
is for the He 111 and the starterschilds is mounted in theJu
52. Compare the new to the original shown below.

The artist is the World famous illustrator Michael English.
His diversely gifted works include major brand name advertisements
and stamps for the Royal Mail. It is only the second such
painting he has done for a special project. This is a very
conservative price for this artist, and surely a good investment
over time. All proceeds benefit the restoration.
Also included will be original artist sketches made during
the painting.

along some interesting information about his grandfather
that we would like to share. It is amazing that we have
the direct descendant of the designer of the BMW 801 and
Kommandogerat as one of our supporters!
Erik
located an article in the December 9, 1946 copy of Aviation
News magazine. The article entitled "German Scientists
Working for AAF" mentions Dr. Alexaneder Lippisch,
Dr. Rudolph Hermann, Dr. Theodor W. Zobel, Fritz Doblhoff,
Dr. Rudolph Ammann, and Dr. Heinz Schmitt.
Under
Dr. Rudolph Ammann (Erik's grandfather), it states that
he is "the designer of the BMW-801 engine used in the
Focke-Wulf 190 fighter. This is confirmation from the era
(1946) that he was the designer.

In doing a general search of the internet I came across
your website. As I scanned through it I found a very
familiar name - P/O Blunderfield, my father's uncle.
Before this website all I had known about William Blunderfield
is that he had been the only son of many daughters of
my great grandmother, he had died in WWII and it had
been a devastating loss to my family.
I immediately called my father and directed him to the
story online not realizing the impact to my family.
There was an account of the German Pilot Feldwebel Rudolf
Artner. Until that description had been found - I don't
think that my family knew what had really happened to
Billy.

The
above photos illustrate a recent interesting discovery.
This part is an MG 131 link ejector chute. Crushed
within it are several links, indicating that the weapon
was firing at the time of impact!
